Haryana seals Khanauri border to stop Punjab farmers from marching to Delhi

Haryana authorities have erected a multi-layer barrier along the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border, preventing a group of farmers from marching to Delhi. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) had organized a 228-kilometer Kisan Bachao Padyatra from Data Singh Wala in Haryana to Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The march, set to culminate on August 29, was to protest the proposed India-US trade deal and demand a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

Haryana Police have installed concrete barricades, positioned riot control vehicles, and set up barbed wire along the Haryana side of the border. The farmers, led by SKM (non-political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, claim they have permission for the march and that it will be peaceful and disciplined. They plan to pass through several towns before reaching Jantar-Mantar, with 51 farmers from various parts of the country participating.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union strongly opposes the proposed trade deal, expressing concerns about its potential impact on Indian agriculture and the broader economy. Dallewal accused Haryana Police of detaining some of the march's leaders ahead of the event, asserting that the government's actions expose its anti-farmer stance.
