Communist parties must unite, but need not ‘merge,’ says Binoy Viswam

CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam emphasized the need for enhanced unity among communist parties in the current political climate, cautioning against the use of the term "merger" to describe such unity. Speaking at a memorial event for former Kerala Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon, Viswam highlighted the guidance provided by Menon's government to subsequent Left governments in Kerala.

He questioned the reluctance to recognize Menon's administration as a Left government and criticized the proposal to display Prime Minister Narendra Modi's picture in front of homes built under the LIFE Mission, labeling it as petty. Viswam also alleged that attempts were being made to steer Kerala towards the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology and that an undeclared Emergency-like situation existed in the state, drawing parallels with the policies of the current Modi government.

He noted that the post of Deputy Leader of the Opposition was a result of the CPI's efforts and stressed that positions in the LDF were not exclusive to any single party. Viswam affirmed that the CPI is committed to working towards strengthening Left unity and vowed to prevent any actions that could undermine the LDF's unity. The CPI district secretary, K.G.
