FULL LIST: Winners and losers of Osun governorship election

The Osun governorship election concluded on August 15, 2026, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke securing a second term with the Accord Party. Adeleke received 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 444,815 votes. The election was marked by controversies, violence, and political shifts, but Adeleke's victory highlighted his strong base in his home LGAs and across the state.

The Accord Party's victory marked the first time they won a governorship election in Osun State, providing the party with a significant boost in the region. The party's success was attributed to Adeleke's emphasis on infrastructure, education, and grassroots engagement during his campaign. His nephew, Davido, played a crucial role in mobilising youth support for the governor, attending rallies and using social media to rally voters.

Voters in Osun, numbering more than one million, played a pivotal role in the election outcome. Traditional rulers, including Ataoja of Osogbo and Timi of Ede, openly supported Adeleke, citing his developmental projects and personal connections. This endorsement helped solidify his lead across various LGAs.

On the losing side, Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, secured a narrow win in 11 LGAs but fell short of the required majority. His campaign focused on his experience in fiscal management and advocating for a "new direction." However, despite the support from federal and state figures, the party could not overcome Adeleke's strong performance.

Other notable figures, such as former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Iyiola Omisore, shifted their support to Oyebamiji, while Adegboyega Oyetola, a prominent APC figure, endorsed the APC candidate. The election also saw prominent APC governors, including Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, campaigning for Oyebamiji, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma actively supported his rival.

The outcome of the election reflected the complex political landscape of Osun and the shifting allegiances among key leaders and their followers.
