Five dead as severe storms, flooding hit Indiana

Severe storms and flooding have claimed at least five lives across Indiana, the most intense flooding the state has seen in over three decades. Heavy rains have inundated rivers, causing them to reach record levels and prompting residents to flee to higher ground. More than a dozen counties have declared local disasters, with the brunt of the damage being centered along river corridors from Hamilton County into the northern Indianapolis suburbs.

Homes in the Indianapolis area have been submerged by rising floodwaters, causing officials to evacuate hundreds of residents living between the river and parallel canals. First responders utilized boats to rescue 95 people and 45 pets as of Sunday. The Indianapolis Fire Department's spokesperson, Rita Reith, reported a staggering 350 evacuations in Delaware County alone, with additional evacuations taking place in Tipton County and Fayette County. Senior mobile home communities are also being evacuated due to the ongoing emergency.
