Tlometsane’s home village remembers his impact on young people

In the village of Gedroogde, Limpopo, residents remember the late Constable Thapelo Tlometsane with admiration for the impact he had on young people. Family, friends, colleagues, and police leadership gathered for the procession of his remains from his family homestead to his final resting place in Gedroogde. National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane joined the parade as the officer's body was taken away.

Tlometsane and his colleague Constable Sphiwe Sibeko, along with two civilian women, were gunned down in Reiger Park, east of Johannesburg, more than a week ago. Sibeko was interred in Johannesburg's Springs on Saturday, while Tlometsane’s neighbour, Refilwe Kekana, spoke of his growth as a disciplined, clean, and shy young man.

"When he became a police officer, we were glad he would inspire many children in the village," Kekana lamented. "We lost him in a tragic manner as we were still anticipating great things from him. We sympathize with his family, especially his parents and relatives, and are grieving alongside you, Gedroogde village." The community is paying tribute to the young officer, remembering his quiet strength, discipline, and dedication to his duty.

Those closest to him say his calm and humble demeanor concealed a profound commitment to serving his community, with many believing he had a bright future ahead in the South African Police Service.
