Embassy celebrates India’s 80th Independence

Doha, Qatar saw a vibrant celebration of India's 80th Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2023. Organized at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), the event drew over 500 members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India. The ceremony commenced with the National Song, Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chargé d'Affaires Sandeep Kumar. This was succeeded by the singing of the National Anthem and the laying of floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi's footprints.

Chargé d'Affaires Sandeep Kumar was the keynote speaker, addressing the gathering. He read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu's Address to the Nation, delivered on the eve of Independence Day. The Chargé d'Affaires underscored the strengthening of diplomatic ties between India and Qatar, and highlighted the recent high-level visits between the two nations.

He also emphasized India's journey as a vibrant democracy, anchored in the values of its Constitution, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Other highlights included India's strong economic growth, the energy and progress of its youth, advancements in infrastructure and connectivity, empowerment of women and entrepreneurs, and the country's growing capabilities in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, space, and semiconductors. The Chargé d'Affaires expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, and the Government and people of Qatar for their continued support to the Indian community.

He also commended the Indian community organizations for their unwavering support in advancing community welfare and progress.

The celebrations were marked by patriotic songs and cultural performances by members of the Indian community and school children. The event was live-streamed on the Embassy's Facebook and YouTube channels, enabling those unable to attend in-person to join virtually. Certificates were distributed to winners of a Painting Competition, themed Viksit Bharat @2047, and to top performers of the Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz.
