Dehradun Chain Snatching Caught On Cam: 75-YO Woman Knocked Down By Scooty Rider On Pretext Of Asking For Directions

A 75-year-old woman named Rajrani Mittal was the victim of a chain-snatching incident in Dehradun’s Vasant Vihar Phase-2 on August 14. According to CCTV footage, Mittal was on an evening walk with the assistance of a walking stick when an unidentified man on an Activa scooter, without a number plate, passed her on a deserted road.

The rider then turned back and stopped beside her, ostensibly to inquire about directions. While Mittal was responding, the man seized a 20-gram gold chain around her neck and sped away. The elderly woman was seen struggling to regain her balance and fell onto the road during the struggle. Mittal’s son reported the incident to the Vasant Vihar police station, leading to the formation of three teams to track down the suspect.

Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage and surveillance cameras to determine the accused’s movements following the robbery. Police are also attempting to identify and locate the scooter used in the crime, which was an Activa without a registration number.
