Congress holds focus group discussions with students

In 2014, the Bihar Staff Selection Commission announced vacancies for positions like forest guards, assistant sub-inspectors, lower division clerks, and stenographers. The written test was held in 2018, and results were announced only in 2022, eight years later. Rakesh Chandan, a 32-year-old from Patna, was among those who took the exam. By the time results were released, many successful candidates had become ineligible due to having exceeded the age limit.

Prashant Pandey, a 37-year-old from a town near Dehradun in Uttarakhand, passed the written test for the ITBP sub-inspector position in 2012. He was 2kg underweight and required another medical exam, but the follow-up test was never scheduled. Three months later, he learned that the recruitment process had been indefinitely postponed, leaving him disheartened and unwilling to attempt another competitive exam.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has been engaging with public exam and government job aspirants since June through his "Chhatron Ki Goonj" initiative. He has addressed multiple public meetings, including one in Pune scheduled for August 22, where the focus will be on women aspirants. The focus of these sessions, known as "deep listening," aims to understand the unique challenges faced by different groups, such as the pressure to marry within a short timeframe for women.

So far, 16 focus group discussions have been held in Delhi, Patna, and Dehradun. These conversations led to the decision of concentrating on women aspirants for the upcoming event in Pune. The party plans to expand this initiative to other cities, particularly in the Hindi-speaking belt, leveraging the organizational capacity built during the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" between September 2022 and January 2023.

The discussions focus on the aspirations, struggles, and disappointments of young Indians, creating a comprehensive record of their grievances.
