Cheslyn Daniels vows to fight on in Cape Town mayoral race despite legal challenges

Cheslyn Daniels, candidate for Cape Town mayor from the Patriotic Alliance, pledged to continue his campaign despite personal and legal hurdles. The party leader, Gayton McKenzie, publicly reaffirmed his support for Daniels just days after the candidate's arrest on assault charges. McKenzie made this announcement during a church service in Kensington, emphasizing that Daniels would not be removed from the race.

Daniels expressed gratitude, stating that McKenzie's trust in him was a powerful vote of confidence and a declaration of the party's values - one that does not abandon its own members during difficult times. Despite acknowledging his imperfections, Daniels vowed to use the challenges as lessons for effective leadership. McKenzie also addressed Daniels' personal issues, urging him to address them before focusing on the city.

Some political opponents had anticipated a court case to derail Daniels' campaign, but Daniels dismissed them, asserting his strength and resolve. He urged his focus to return to the party's campaign and addressing issues such as crime, housing, and jobs. Daniels and his wife, Deveney, were released on bail following their appearance in court over an incident involving Daniels' former wife and their minor child. They will return to court on September 21.
