Chelsea wonderkid defender offered interesting Premier League loan option

Josh Acheampong, Chelsea's young defender, continues to be in a holding pattern as the club explores ways to bring him up through the ranks. The 19-year-old has been languishing in squad limbo for several years, unable to break into the first team. While Chelsea made headway on trimming their squad last week, confirming multiple loan deals, they still have a significant number of players remaining on their books.

One key challenge facing Acheampong is his lack of regular first-team experience. He is talented enough not to be a sell, but inexperienced enough to warrant a loan move to gain valuable Premier League exposure. Several clubs have expressed interest in taking the promising defender on loan, with TalkSport reporting that newly-promoted Coventry City has made a tempting proposal.

Coventry, managed by Blues legend Frank Lampard, would provide Acheampong with regular first-team football, despite the fact that they are expected to be relegated at the end of the season.
