67-year-old man dies in Jurong East flat fire; 50 residents evacuated

A 67-year-old man tragically lost his life after a fire erupted in his Jurong East apartment early on Sunday morning, August 16. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call about the blaze at Block 339 Jurong East Avenue 1 around 3:55am. Firefighters arrived to find dense black smoke emanating from the living room of a third-floor unit, forcing entry to the flat. Upon discovery, a SCDF paramedic confirmed the man was unresponsive and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Fifty residents were evacuated by both police and SCDF as a precautionary measure. The fire, which originated in the living room, was eventually brought under control using a single water jet. Preliminary investigations by the police have not indicated any foul play, and the matter remains under active investigation. This incident follows a series of fatal residential fires in recent weeks, including the deaths of a 70-year-old man and an 88-year-old man in separate incidents earlier this month.
