67-year-old man dies in Jurong East flat fire; 50 residents evacuated

In the early hours of Sunday, a 67-year-old man tragically lost his life due to a fire that broke out in a Jurong East flat. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the blaze at Block 339 Jurong East Avenue 1 around 3:55am. Upon arrival, firefighters identified black smoke emanating from the living room of a third-floor unit and had to gain entry.

Tragically, the elderly man was discovered unconscious in the unit and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. Approximately 50 residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure, with assistance from both the police and SCDF. The fire, originating from the living room, was brought under control using a single water jet, according to the SCDF's Facebook post.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident is not the result of foul play, and the police have stated that further investigations are ongoing. This incident is part of a series of fatal residential fires that have occurred over recent weeks. A 70-year-old man died in a fire at Block 39 Circuit Road on July 28, three days later, a person perished in a fire at Block 309 Clementi Ave 4, and on August 5, an 88-year-old man passed away two days following a fire at Block 684 Race Course Road.
