12 killed as Polish bus overturns in Hungary

Early Sunday morning, a Polish tourist bus veered off the road and overturned on the M3 motorway in Hungary, resulting in the tragic deaths of twelve individuals and leaving ten others with severe injuries. Prime Minister Peter Magyar, alongside police officials, confirmed the grim circumstances to the public. The bus, en route from Serbia to Poland, was traveling along the M3 highway near Mezokeresztes, east of Budapest.

According to the national disaster management agency, the coach veered off the road, overturned, and came to rest on its side in a ditch. The vehicle was carrying 57 passengers and two drivers. The Hungarian police statement revealed that eleven passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while one more individual passed away in a hospital. Thirty-seven people sustained minor injuries, necessitating assistance from rescuers who had to extract some trapped individuals through the bus windows.

This devastating incident marks the worst road accident in Hungary since a similar tragedy in 2003, when a train collision with a German tourist bus at Siofok claimed the lives of thirty-three people. Prime Minister Magyar conveyed his condolences to the victims' families via social media, expressing his gratitude to all those who participated in the rescue efforts.
