12 killed as Polish bus overturns in Hungary

A tragic bus accident in Hungary claimed the lives of 12 people and left at least 10 others with severe injuries, according to reports on Sunday morning. The Polish coach, traveling from Serbia to Poland, veered off the M3 motorway near the town of Mezokeresztes, east of Budapest, around 1am, as per a police statement. The unfortunate incident occurred when the bus left the highway, crashed into a ditch, and came to a stop on its side.

The national disaster management agency confirmed that the bus, carrying 57 passengers and two drivers, left the road and overturned. Eleven passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while one person succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital. Thirty-seven individuals sustained minor injuries, with rescuers having to extract some from the bus through the windows due to entrapment.

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar expressed his condolences to the families of the victims via social media, stating, "I send my sincere condolences to the families of the victims." He also expressed gratitude to all those who participated in the rescue operation. This incident marks the deadliest road accident in Hungary since a train collision with a German tourist bus in Siofok in 2003, which resulted in the deaths of 33 people.
