Yakshagana, Dhol Tasha, Garba add colour to Bengaluru’s first Freedom Habba

In a unique celebration of Independence Day, Bengaluru hosted its first Freedom Habba in front of the Vidhana Soudha steps on Saturday. The event, organized by the Karnataka government, brought together citizens from various communities, states, and districts to display their traditional folk arts and cultural heritage. Diverse performances included Yakshagana from Karnataka, Dhol Tasha from Maharashtra, Garba from Gujarat, and West Bengal's Dhanuchi Naach.

Additionally, Sikh martial arts like Chakkar bazi and Gatka, along with traditional Indian martial arts such as Chhau, were showcased. Over 30 teams paraded their skills for nearly half a kilometer before performing on a stage set at the entrance of Vidhana Soudha, where they explained the significance of their respective arts, cultures, and traditions.

Visitors included students, tourists, and locals, who expressed their admiration for the event and the opportunity to experience Independence Day in a distinctive manner. However, some confusion emerged among metro commuters and park visitors exiting the park, as police directed them towards alternative routes due to the screening of attendees with registered QR codes.

Despite the logistical challenges, the event successfully highlighted Karnataka's contribution to India's freedom struggle, alongside a living museum of India's Freedom Trail and a Constitution square for children.
