Threat ends as Sabah wildlife officers kill 14-foot croc near in Sipitang river near jetty to Labuan

On August 15, a 14-foot male crocodile was captured and killed by the Sabah Wildlife Department (JHL) near the Sipitang River, bringing relief to the residents of Kampung Tanjung Pagar who had been living in fear of the reptile. A local resident expressed gratitude to the department for their prompt response in dealing with the crocodile, which had previously been caught using a fishing line.

The crocodile had been frequently spotted at the river's mouth near Kg Tanjung Pagar before it was ultimately shot dead and handed over to a licensed crocodile hunter.

However, residents have been advised to remain vigilant, as other crocodiles could still be present in the area. It is emphasized that crocodiles can suddenly attack and prey on unsuspecting individuals. Due to its proximity to the boat jetty that serves passengers traveling to Labuan, the Wildlife Department has urged passengers to exercise caution when boarding boats.

The residents have expressed their appreciation to the Wildlife Department for successfully capturing and eliminating the crocodile, and they hope that similar operations will continue to address any remaining threats from other crocodiles. In another instance near Kg Pelakat Skim, villagers have been setting fishing lines in a drain where crocodiles have been frequently seen, causing concern particularly for children who often spend time near the area.

Villagers have advised residents to be more cautious when approaching or playing near the drain, and they have lodged a complaint with the Wildlife Department, which led to officers visiting the area and setting fishing lines in an effort to capture the crocodile.
