Threat ends as Sabah wildlife officers kill 14-foot croc near in Sipitang river near jetty to Labuan

SIPITANG, August 15 — A 14-foot male crocodile was captured and shot dead by the Sabah Wildlife Department on Thursday, relieving residents living in fear near the Kampung Tanjung Pagar area. A village resident expressed gratitude for the department's quick response, noting they had been caught using a fishing line. The crocodile had been frequently spotted at the river's mouth near Kg Tanjung Pagar before its death.

However, locals have been cautioned to remain vigilant as other crocodiles might still be present. The resident warned that crocodiles can suddenly attack and prey on unsuspecting individuals, especially near the boat jetty serving Labuan passengers. Authorities urged boat passengers to exercise caution when boarding. Residents thanked the Wildlife Department for successfully eliminating the crocodile and hoped ongoing operations would address other potential threats.

Meanwhile, villagers at Kg Pelakat Skim, along with the Wildlife Department, have been using fishing lines in a drain where a crocodile had been seen, raising concerns for the safety of children who frequently play in the area. The residents advised residents to be cautious when approaching or playing near the drain, urging the Wildlife Department to continue their efforts to ensure the safety of the community.
