'Swiftly ensure 33% reservation for women': PM Modi to political parties on I-Day

NEW DELHI - On the 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on political parties to swiftly implement a proposed 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. Speaking from the Red Fort, the prime minister urged the nation to honor women's strength and capability and grant them 33% representation in politics.

He highlighted the significant contributions of women representatives in various elected bodies, including Panchayats, Municipalities, and Municipal Corporations. The prime minister also introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in Parliament, which aimed to further strengthen women's representation. However, the bill has yet to gain momentum due to political disagreements and failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha.
