Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts mark Independence Day with patriotic fervour

Across Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, the 80th Independence Day was observed on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with an unprecedented level of patriotic fervour. Several establishments, from rural factories and shops to residential colonies, raised the national flag to celebrate 'Har Ghar Tiranga' under relaxed flag code regulations.

Unlike previous years when public flag-hoisting typically took place at official institutions like the Collector's office, courts, schools, and colleges, this year witnessed an extraordinary display of flag-waving across numerous colonies and areas. Residents proudly displayed the Indian flag at their homes and establishments, expressing joy over the occasion.

Sura Srinivasa Rao, the founder of SSR Charitable Trust and an industrialist, commended the Union government for easing the flag code restrictions. He recounted how the celebrations usually took place at the Srikakulam Government Degree College, but this year, they shifted to locations like Navabharat Junction, Thotapalem, and Polytechnic College Road in Srikakulam.

In Vizianagaram, Arya Vysya Sangham president Ravva Srinivas and secretary Kapuganti Ravi hoisted the flag on the terrace of Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple in Fort City's GT Road. MBA College professor Penki Ravikumar and others placed flags at Arikathota in Ramabhadrapuram mandal of Vizianagaram district. Amidst the celebrations, they engaged in charitable activities, emphasizing the importance of respecting the flag as per the rules and regulations, ensuring it does not touch the ground at any cost.
