Okoe-Boye elected NPP Greater Accra Regional Chairman

Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, a former Minister of Health, has been elected as the new Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In the regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, he secured a substantial lead with 490 votes compared to his opponent Alfred Boye, who received 172 votes. This victory represents a 318-vote margin, indicating a decisive win in the election process.

The NPP's decision to elect Dr Okoe-Boye is part of their broader strategy to rebuild the party's structures and enhance electoral performance in the Greater Accra Region, particularly ahead of the 2028 general elections. The party has faced challenges in recent elections, notably losing eight out of its 14 parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region during the 2024 polls, reducing its seats to just five.

These recent setbacks have sparked a renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation, strengthening party organization, and devising new strategies to reclaim constituencies lost in the previous election cycle. As the newly elected Regional Chairman, Dr Okoe-Boye is tasked with collaborating closely with constituency executives and other party stakeholders.

His role will encompass reinforcing the NPP’s presence throughout the region and overseeing the coordination of both the regional and constituency structures as the party prepares for the upcoming 2028 elections. His election not only provides him with a strong mandate to spearhead rebuilding efforts within Greater Accra but also positions him to contribute significantly to regaining the lost parliamentary seats that the party has experienced.
