Former Health Minister Okoe Boye elected NPP Greater Accra Regional Chair

Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, a former Health Minister and Ledzokuku Member of Parliament, has been elected as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The medical doctor triumphed in the regional executive elections, which took place at the WAEC Hall in Tema West, with a substantial lead of 490 votes compared to his rival Alfred Boye, who garnered 172 votes.

Dr Okoe Boye's campaign centered on a pledge to adopt a more inclusive and service-oriented leadership style. During the election campaign, he dismissed allegations that he would be resistant to differing viewpoints, stating that such accusations were merely attempts by his opponents to undermine his competence and credentials. Dr Okoe Boye outlined his leadership approach, stating that he intends to prioritize constituency executives in decision-making, fostering direct interaction to comprehend their challenges and devise effective solutions.

He acknowledged that opponents often resort to such tactics when they cannot contest an individual's skills or proposals. Dr Okoe Boye emphasized that the conventional model of regional leaders issuing directives is no longer effective, proposing instead a leadership model grounded in service, collaboration, and regular engagement.

He described himself as a Chief Servant in Accra, rather than a Chairman who would dominate the constituency executives. He expressed his intention to connect with them and understand their needs. Joan was chosen as the First Vice Chairperson, while Prince Obeng secured the position of Second Vice Chairman. The newly elected leaders are tasked with spearheading the NPP's reorganization and mobilization initiatives in Greater Accra, as the party seeks to revamp its structures and enhance its electoral prospects in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
