Trump impone aranceles de hasta el 100% a los drones para contener a China

The United States government announced on Friday the implementation of new tariffs, up to 100%, on imports of drones and their components. This measure, set to take effect on September 3rd, aims to bolster domestic production, mitigate security risks, and lessen reliance on foreign suppliers, according to the White House. The tariff scheme will be applied segmentally based on the size and technical capabilities of the equipment.

The maximum 100% duty will target drones weighing over 25 kilograms at takeoff, those equipped with infrared imaging systems, tethering stations, and components deemed particularly sensitive. Smaller drones without critical security functions will face a 25% tariff. Imports from strategic partners will be subject to differentiated rates.

Devices and components from the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Taiwan will incur a 15% tariff. The United Kingdom will be subject to a 10% rate, provided the technology, software, and hardware originate from either the UK or the United States. The policy is expected to significantly impact China, which is the world's leading producer of unmanned aerial vehicles, with companies like DJI Technologies, headquartered in Shenzhen, controlling nearly 70% of the commercial drone market in the United States.
