NPP’s 2024 Bolgatanga Central Parliamentary Candidate elected Upper East Regional Chairman

Elvis Figo Awonekai, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central, has been elected as the Chairman of the party in the Upper East Region. The regional executive elections, held in Bolgatanga, saw Mr. Awonekai emerge victorious with 177 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Dr. Moses Kwabena Atinga, who garnered 123 votes. Filson Kweku Awankuah received 18 votes, while Patrick Ayaaba secured 13 votes, and Osman M. Konkonba obtained one vote.

Following his election, Mr. Awonekai addressed the delegates, emphasizing the urgency of the new regional leadership in getting to work. He highlighted the approaching 2028 general elections, stating that time was not on their side, and they needed to focus on winning. Mr. Awonekai acknowledged that the election may have placed the candidates on opposite sides but stressed that it was now crucial for them to collaborate towards rebuilding the party.

The newly elected executives are set to complete the necessary organizational processes and assume their duties in accordance with the NPP's constitution. One of Mr. Awonekai's top priorities is to restore unity within the party, addressing divisions that have negatively impacted the NPP's performance. He expressed confidence in the experience and capacity of the executives who were elected alongside him, believing they possess the necessary skills to unite the party's factions and strengthen its structures across the Upper East Region.

The immediate task for the new Regional Chairman is to unite the rank and file, rebuild the party at the grassroots level, and position the NPP for a stronger showing in the 2028 general elections.
