NPP’s 2024 Bolgatanga Central Parliamentary Candidate elected Upper East Regional Chairman

Elvis Figo Awonekai, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central, has been elected Chairman of the Upper East Region. He secured 177 votes in the regional executive elections held in Bolgatanga, surpassing his closest rival, Dr Moses Kwabena Atinga, who received 123 votes. Other candidates, Filson Kweku Awankuah, Patrick Ayaaba, and Osman M. Konkonba, garnered significantly fewer votes.

In his victory speech, Mr Awonekai emphasized the urgency for the new regional leadership to take immediate action as the 2028 general elections loom. He urged the candidates to set aside their differences and work together towards rebuilding the party. "Time is not on our side. We have an election to win in 2028," he stated.

The newly elected executives committed to completing the necessary organizational processes and assuming their duties in accordance with the NPP's constitution. Among their priorities, Mr Awonekai highlighted the restoration of unity as a crucial step, acknowledging that divisions within the party had negatively impacted its performance. He expressed confidence in the experience and capacity of the elected executives to unite the party's factions and fortify its structures in the Upper East Region.

Mr Awonekai stressed the immediate need to unite rank-and-file members, rebuild the party at the grassroots level, and position the NPP for a stronger showing in the upcoming 2028 general elections.
