Qatar categorically denies claims it is detaining Iranian pilots

Doha's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly rejected allegations that Iranian pilots are being held captive. Surprised by the misleading claims, the ministry expressed its astonishment at the time when diplomatic efforts are intensifying to de-escalate tensions in the region. The ministry claimed they had made attempts to contact the pilots after they had violated Qatari airspace and confirmed their trajectory towards a target.

Despite following the rules of engagement and making every effort to communicate, the pilots did not respond. Consequently, necessary measures were taken to protect Qatari territory in accordance with international law. The ministry stated this had been officially clarified at the time of the incident. They also emphasized that their search-and-rescue teams were actively working to locate the pilots' remains.

The ministry informed Iran of their intentions to coordinate the transfer of the remains of one pilot who had been found, in line with international humanitarian law. Additionally, the ministry formally invited an Iranian team to visit Qatar in April to discuss the search-and-rescue operations. However, there has been no response from Iran so far.

Iran has been demanding the release of three pilots they claim are being held in Qatar. Meanwhile, Qatar has denied agreeing to participate in any military action against Iran. Qatar has also confirmed the interception, resulting in three injuries, including a child. The country is currently engaged in technical talks with the United States in Doha amid ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
