Newcastle progressing with move for Benfica defender Dedic

Newcastle United are exploring a potential transfer for Benfica's defender Amar Dedic. The club is seeking a new right-back after the departure of Kieran Trippier, who moved to Wolves on a free transfer. Dedic, 23, has worked with Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle previously while at RB Salzburg and was a key player in their successful 2023 Austrian Bundesliga title fight.

Newcastle is reportedly making significant progress in talks with Benfica for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, whose market value is approximately £30m. Should a deal go through, Dedic could potentially make his debut for Newcastle in their opening match against Liverpool on August 23rd. Tino Livramento is out with a calf injury sustained during England's international duty in June.

Dedic has made 31 appearances for his country, starting three of Bosnia and Herzegovina's four World Cup matches. He also finished as the second-ranked full-back in Portugal's Primeira Liga last season in terms of crosses into the box (49) and third for total number of progressive carries (325).
