New Plateau Police Chief Vows Crackdown on Jungle Justice, Others

CP Faniyan Ayodeji, the new Commissioner of Police in Jos Plateau State, has taken immediate action to overhaul policing in the region. Addressing the Police Command headquarters in Jos, Ayodeji pledged to transform the state into a model of positive change, emphasizing human rights, zero tolerance for corruption, enhanced community cooperation, and the use of technology to combat crime.

He sternly cautioned officers against brutality and misconduct, emphasizing that the Police Command must earn public trust through professionalism, transparency, and empathy. Concerned over the surge in mob attacks, Ayodeji declared jungle justice to be a criminal act, with perpetrators facing full legal consequences and urged citizens to report suspects to authorities.

Regarding election security, he announced a meeting for stakeholders on Tuesday to establish campaign guidelines and avert potential clashes, promising impartiality and vowed to deploy all security resources, leaving no stone unturned. He revealed that recent intelligence had thwarted an attempt to kidnap bishops' wives, with suspects already apprehended, and shared that the Command had made significant arrests in the past month, recovering weapons and ammunition.

Ayodeji also vowed to tighten motorcycle and vehicle regulations prior to political events, promising an operation that is fair, transparent, and not intended to harass the public. He appealed to residents to assist the police with reliable information, emphasizing that collaboration would bolster security and make Plateau State the safest in Nigeria.
