Navi Mumbai: Over 1,300 Tonnes Of Waste Removed From Mangroves In 6 Years, 1.30 Lakh Volunteers Join Clean-Up Campaign

Navi Mumbai has removed over 1,300 tonnes of waste from mangrove and coastal areas in the past six years through the Environment Life Foundation's mangrove conservation campaign. The latest clean-up event took place on Independence Day at Karave Jetty. More than 1.30 lakh volunteers, including school and college students, social organisations and local residents, took part in the event.

Founding member Dharmesh Barai expressed concern over the continued flow of waste into mangrove areas despite the efforts, stating that the ultimate goal is to have no cleanup tasks left. He highlighted that a large portion of marine debris comes from household plastic waste entering drains from slum and residential areas, eventually reaching the sea and mangroves.

Barai urged residents in Mumbai and nearby regions to reflect on the reason behind the pollution in their seas, emphasizing that true freedom can only be achieved when the planet and its creatures are free from pollution.
