Law & Order: SVU Star Mariska Hargitay's Father Appeared In One Episode

Detective Olivia Benson, portrayed by Mariska Hargitay, conducted an interview at a crime scene during the 100th episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. To Mariska's surprise, her father, Mickey Hargitay, appeared as a grandfather who was questioned by the authorities. While Mickey did not have a significant role in the series, their on-screen interaction during this milestone episode provided an intriguing moment for viewers.

Mickey Hargitay's guest appearance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit also marked his final acting credit before his death from blood cancer in 2006. In Season 5, Episode 9, Mickey's character was seen escorting his granddaughter down a subway escalator when they encountered a wounded man. The man succumbed to his injuries before the police arrived, leaving the grandfather responsible for providing a statement to Detective Benson.

Mickey Hargitay previously collaborated with Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield, Mariska's mother, in various projects during the late 50s and 60s. Arnold Schwarzenegger even portrayed Mickey in a made-for-TV movie about their relationship. After Mansfield's fatal car accident, Mariska was raised by her father and his third wife, Ellen Siano.

Despite initially believing Mickey was her biological father, Mariska revealed in her documentary, My Mom Jayne, that she was actually related to former Las Vegas entertainer Nelson Sardelli. The discovery was made during a performance in Atlantic City, N.J., five years after Mariska first learned of Sardelli's existence. Mariska emphasized that her relationship with her father was integral to her upbringing, stating that she grew up where she was meant to be.
