Kingdom Hearts is getting its own anime series on Disney+ and Disney Channel

Disney+ and Disney Channel are set to launch an original Kingdom Hearts animated series. The announcement came during the D23 Entertainment Showcase on Friday. The show, currently titled Kingdom Hearts, is being developed in collaboration with series creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix's creative team. It will present a fresh storyline within the established Kingdom Hearts universe, rather than adapting existing games.

A teaser image revealed Sora and his Keyblade, but details about the cast, episode count, and release date remain unknown. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, stated that the series aims to stay true to Kingdom Hearts while offering a new experience for fans. This marks the first time the franchise, in existence for nearly 25 years as a collaboration between Disney and Square Enix since 2002, is adapted into a television series.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to release later this year, aligning with the 25th anniversary of the series in the Western market.
