The National Union of Teacher Personnel (NUTP) has accused the Ministry of Education (KPM) of misinterpreting their presence at a briefing session last June as an endorsement of the implementation of School Student Protection Policing. NUTP President Aminuddin Awang stated that the purpose of their attendance was to challenge the order to sign the pledge form, although the photo from the KPM session suggested otherwise, portraying NUTP as supportive in that regard.

According to Awang, the briefing on June 22nd primarily focused on an orientation on various major initiatives related to education, safety, and student welfare, rather than being a dedicated session solely on the specific policing matter. He told FMT that while they attended, they did not agree to the pledge, but continued to do so.

NUTP has requested a follow-up meeting with KPM to seek further clarification once the related analysis is released, but the ministry often delays setting the date. The message from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on Facebook yesterday, which reassured that the police action was not intended to shift all student safety responsibilities onto teachers or make them the scapegoat, was also accompanied by a photo to emphasize that KPM has been actively collaborating with various stakeholders, including NUTP, since the beginning.

Prior to this, Fadhlina reportedly said that KPM would hold a special session with stakeholders to discuss the implementation of student protection policing measures, following the pledge form order, pending an assessment of potential risks to teachers after the pledge deadline on July 1st.
