Joshua Báez first player to homer in first 3 at-bats in the majors, leads Cardinals past Cubs 8-4

Joshua Báez set a major league record on Saturday, becoming the first player to hit three home runs in his first three at-bats for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 23-year-old left fielder, recently called up from Triple-A Memphis, drove in a team-high five runs and helped the Cardinals defeat the Chicago Cubs 8-4. Báez's first homer came on a full-count pitch in the fourth inning, followed by two more solo shots in the fourth and sixth innings.

His three homers were driven in by Matthew Blaze Jordan and Alec Burleson. Michael Conforto's three-run homer for the Cubs, who had won the game's opening game, was matched by Báez. Michael McGreevy, who had won his previous start on July 8, allowed three unearned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. The Cardinals will face Edward Cabrera, who is recovering from a left hamstring strain, in the final game of the three-game series.
