Psychological impunity refers to a phenomenon where individuals feel they will not face punishment for their wrongdoings, leading them to justify their actions with personal reasons and believe they are above the law. This issue can manifest at three levels: individual, relational, and social, the latter encompassing those who think they are immune to rules due to their high corporate or political status.

The term originates from a psychological concept that describes the mental distress of those who believe their crimes will go unpunished, emphasizing a lack of empathy, justification, and self-absorption.

The same psychological impunity can affect everyday people who invest in cryptocurrencies without understanding their nature, purchase stocks based on hearsay from acquaintances, and remain convinced that fixed-income investments always yield returns. They may also fall victim to pyramid schemes, justifying their losses by blaming others. This behavior was once common among banking officials who recommended investments without proper knowledge of the assets or the risks involved for their clients.

Thankfully, the distribution of banking products has evolved due to regulatory changes and improved training for advisors. Consequently, individuals can now invest with more confidence. However, it is crucial to stay informed about potential scams, such as the recent case where a group defrauded $1.2 billion through fake cryptocurrencies.
