AP-Genco prioritises 24x7 power supply for agri farmers

Andhra Pradesh-Power Generation Corporation Limited (AP-Genco) Managing Director S. Nagalakshmi emphasized the importance of providing uninterrupted power supply to agricultural consumers, as well as domestic, industrial and commercial users, during the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Vijayawada. She noted that power demand is rapidly increasing and the government has taken steps to augment generation capacity to sustain power supply in the future.

AP-Genco recorded a peak power demand of 15,016 MW on May 21 and a peak daily energy consumption of 288.92 million units earlier this year. Generation increased from 77,640.55 Million Units in 2024-25 to 79,684.96 MU in 2025-26, reaching 15,970.11 MU as of June. In 2025, AP-Genco achieved a record generation of 6,009 MW, supported by improved coal supply, timely financial aid and operational efficiency.

The corporation has undertaken a 15,680 MW capacity expansion program, with the Lower Sileru expansion, Polavaram hydropower project and Upper Sileru Pumped Storage Project being crucial. AP-Transco's performance has been highlighted, with digitalization, modern monitoring systems and predictive maintenance measures leading to a 2.6% reduction in transmission technical losses in 2025-26.

The government has prioritized solar, wind, pumped storage and battery energy storage projects, with renewable energy projects totaling 112.45 Gigawatts allocated as of June 2026.
