‘I take the peaceful path’: Anwar dismisses Khairy’s claim of rift with Zahid

Melaka, Aug 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has firmly asserted that his relationship with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi remains solid. Khairy Jamaluddin, former Umno Youth chief, recently alleged that this rapport had deteriorated, but Anwar dismissed this claim as merely his personal viewpoint.

According to Anwar, he approaches matters with a focus on peace, contrasting this with Khairy's inclination towards conflict. During his presidential address at the 2026 PKR National Congress, held at the Melaka International Trade Centre today, Anwar highlighted his appreciation for Ahmad Zahid's role in facilitating the Unity Government's inception post the 15th General Election.

He specifically thanked Zahid and Umno for their contribution during his speech. Earlier, Khairy had stated that trust between Anwar and Ahmad Zahid has reached its lowest point since the formation of the Unity Government in 2022, attributing this to escalating tensions between the BN and PH, especially following BN's decision to collaborate with Perikatan Nasional in the Negeri Sembilan State Election.

Despite these disagreements, Anwar emphasized that any internal conflicts or issues between parties forming the Unity Government can be addressed through dialogue and a peaceful approach.
