Hansi Flick considers Barcelona academy graduate a top-level talent

FC Barcelona's pre-season has been influenced by the departure of internationals who participated in the World Cup and the arrival of young academy players into the first team. Among these young players, Xavi Espart has particularly caught the eye of head coach Hansi Flick. The 19-year-old right-back, who was promoted to the first team last season, has been performing exceptionally well.

In the 2023 season, Espart made six appearances, with two in the Champions League and four in La Liga. He started both matches in the recent triangular tournament, which included games against Udinese and Nottingham Forest. Flick has praised Espart's versatility, noting his ability to adapt to full-back after starting his youth career in midfield.

Defensively, Espart is recognized for his aggression, confidence, composure, speed, coolness, and positioning. On the attacking side, he demonstrates his potential by carrying the ball forward, combining with wingers, finding spaces, and stretching the pitch. With Espart's contract extending until 2028, he is assured of a spot in the first team for the upcoming season.

This decision comes at the expense of Hector Fort, who spent last season on loan at Elche and is now expected to move to Borussia Dortmund.
