Gov’t invests GH¢443m in Free Primary Health Care – Dr Asare Bampoe

The government has allocated GH¢443 million to implement the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) program. Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), announced this at a durbar in Zuarungu, Bolgatanga East District. Of the total amount, GH¢36 million was distributed to 107 district health facilities across the country to facilitate the FPHC program.

The Upper East Region received approximately GH¢4.2 million for 14 district health facilities, with funds paid directly to the facilities to improve efficiency and minimize delays. The Bawku West District Health Directorate and Bongo District Health Directorate received the largest allocations of GH¢514,418.71 and GH¢415,393.79, respectively.

The NHIA has also introduced a cashless revenue collection system and a One-Time Authentication Code (OTAC) system to enhance accountability, reduce risks associated with cash handling, and ensure value for money. The CEO assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to strengthening Ghana's healthcare system and expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare.
