Five contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) have recently expanded their services and built new facilities, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations. Fujifilm Biotechnologies, which opened its $3.2 billion biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, NC last year, has been selected for the FDA's PreCheck Pilot Program, aimed at strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities.

Lonza Group is also expanding its AI capabilities, hiring 20 to 30 AI-focused professionals to enhance their expertise in drug discovery, development, clinical trial processes, and molecule design. Additionally, Lonza is enhancing its aseptic drug product capacity in Stein by adding another commercial-scale multi-purpose filling line for antibody-drug conjugates.
