Gov poll: Soldiers trying to block me from entering Osun — Davido

Afrobeats artiste Davido has alleged that soldiers are obstructing his attempts to enter Osun State ahead of the governorship election. In a post on his verified X account, Davido stated: "I've been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won't happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time."

This claim followed the announcement by the Nigeria Police Force to restrict movement in Osun State from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of security measures for the election. Davido, a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, is supporting his uncle's re-election campaign under the Accord Party.

The singer's post garnered attention, with some users viewing the movement restrictions as a plausible explanation for any security checks, while others expressed worries about targeted restrictions on the candidate. Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido's claim as "dramatic," noting that the movement restrictions were a standard security measure during elections in Osun, and that the right to freedom of movement does not override lawful security measures.
