From Hezbollah cells to ISIS plot and Iranian attacks: How Kuwait is confronting threats on multiple fronts

Kuwait has been facing threats from Iran and its factions, Hezbollah cells, and ISIS for the past six months. The country has confronted attacks through various means, including air, land, and sea. Recently, ISIS resurfaced as a threat when the Interior Ministry thwarted a terrorist plot against a vital facility and arrested a Kuwaiti national linked to the group.

The suspect had received training in explosives and drone making and had constructed a drone for the plot. Additionally, two minors were arrested for allegedly communicating with ISIS members and training in explosives manufacturing with the intent to attack a religious establishment. Analysts suggest that the resurgence of ISIS in Kuwait stems from extremist teachings in mosques and other venues, leading to cell formation and resurgence.

Security concerns are also attributed to ISIS recruitment attempts targeting minors and citizens via social media. Kuwait's Interior Ministry urged parents to monitor their children's social media use and family guidance to counter these risks. Furthermore, in March and April, Iran launched repeated air assaults on Kuwait, targeting power stations, water plants, military, civilian facilities, and naval vessels, resulting in several casualties and injuries.

The country also dismantled four cells affiliated with Hezbollah in early May, dismantling plots aimed at assassinating prominent figures and leaders.
