Dh3,000 fine for drivers who block emergency vehicles in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, drivers who obstruct emergency vehicles face a heavy fine of Dh3,000, the loss of six traffic points, and the potential impoundment of their vehicle for a month, according to the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. The authority emphasizes the critical importance of motorists yielding the right of way to emergency vehicles, as timely response can be lifesaving and enable crews to reach incidents promptly.

The "Don’t Hesitate... Give Way Immediately" campaign, launched jointly by Abu Dhabi Police, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, the Department of Health, and the Department of Municipalities and Transport, aims to promote a culture of immediate and responsible behavior among drivers. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the urgent need to clear the path for ambulances, fire engines, and other emergency vehicles, as every second counts during emergencies such as road crashes, fires, or medical emergencies.

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority stresses that delays caused by motorists blocking emergency vehicles can exacerbate already dire situations, particularly during critical incidents like fires or medical emergencies. Authorities urge drivers to treat the sound of an emergency siren not as an inconvenience, but as an urgent signal that help is needed. They warn that motorists who fail to yield pose a risk not only to patients or accident victims but also to emergency crews operating in hazardous conditions.

Abu Dhabi Police further caution against stopping in live traffic lanes and urge truck drivers to adhere to safety rules. The police also recognize the commendable efforts of officers who assist in guiding stranded motorists across roads.
