Dafeamekpor urges Parliament to stay out of Aksa probe, backs expert-led inquiry

Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has urged Parliament to refrain from direct involvement in the investigation of the alleged bribery scandal surrounding the Aksa power deal. He advocates for state institutions to take the lead, with a committee of experts and civil society representatives assisting in the fact-finding process.

On JoyNews’ Newsfile, Dafeamekpor stated that Parliament's participation could lead to conflicts of interest due to its role in approving public contracts and overseeing government operations. He proposed a committee consisting of representatives from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the Attorney-General's Office, the judiciary, and relevant civil society organizations.

Dafeamekpor believes such a setup would build upon the information already gathered by state institutions, rather than starting from scratch. He also mentioned that the OSP had assisted US authorities in investigating aspects of the matter, suggesting that relevant material might already be available.
