Chhattisgarh Police bags 141 medals, highest by a force ever

The Chhattisgarh Police force has set a new record, claiming a staggering 141 gallantry and service medals in a single award ceremony. This unprecedented haul makes them the highest recipients of such honors by any state police or security organization. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced these medals on Friday, distributing a total of 1,057 awards among Police, Fire Service, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services personnel.

The Chhattisgarh Police's tally of 141 medals marks a significant shift in the distribution of honors. They now surpass the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which received 38 gallantry medals, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which received 20. The force's achievement is particularly noteworthy, as 272 of their gallantry medals were awarded to police personnel, while 29 were bestowed upon Fire Service employees.

The majority of these medals recognize exceptional bravery and acts of valor during operations against Left-wing extremism, which has plagued certain regions of India. In addition to Chhattisgarh's 141 awards, Jammu and Kashmir received 51 gallantry medals, 12 from the North-East, and 41 from other regions. The President's Medals for Distinguished Service numbered 92, while 664 medals for Meritorious Service were awarded across the various security forces.
