Apologise to Okyeman or face our wrath – Nananoom to Akyemansa DCE

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has demanded an apology from Akyemansa District Chief Executive Linda Ahenkora after what it claims to be an unauthorized intervention in chieftaincy matters. The Council alleged that the DCE interfered with the Etwereso chieftaincy dispute by recognizing and promoting Ofosu Kwabi, the Etweresohene, to a paramountcy status.

In a letter dated August 12, 2026, the Council instructed the DCE to revoke a July 7, 2026 letter, which purported to bestow paramountcy status on the Etwereso Stool. The Council claimed it had taken note of the DCE's actions and warned that non-compliance would result in escalating the issue to appropriate authorities. The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council clarified that it had not appointed any Regent for the Etwereso Stool, and the purported appointment was an inadvertent oversight corrected upon the State Council's intervention.

The Council reiterated its awareness of the customary and legal processes surrounding chief selection, nomination, appointment, installation, and deposition. It urged the DCE to seek clarification from the Ofori Panin Fie before taking any further action. The Council cited Article 270(2) of the 1992 Constitution, arguing that no law can grant any person or authority the power to recognize or withdraw recognition from a chief in a way that diminishes chieftaincy dignity.

The Council stressed that matters regarding chieftaincy administration, registration, and recognition should be handled by constitutionally and legally mandated chieftaincy institutions, not Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives. The Council affirmed that the Etwereso Stool is a sub-stool of the Benkum Division of the Ofori Panin Stool, and the Okyenhene remains committed to addressing the Etwereso matter through peaceful processes and would not abdicate responsibility.
