Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, has announced that the illegal mining, known as galamsey, will be a central issue in the NPP's campaign strategy for the 2028 general elections. This statement was made during the ongoing NPP Eastern Regional elections, where delegates have gathered to vote for the party's regional executives on August 15.

Annoh-Dompreh emphasized that all candidates are qualified, but the delegates will elect those they believe can best serve the party. He assured that this vote is crucial and confident that the party will make the right choice. His primary focus, however, is on the upcoming 2028 elections and the NPP's approach to reclaim political ground.

Annoh-Dompreh highlighted the poor state of water bodies in the Eastern Region as a significant governance concern. He warned that galamsey would be a significant topic in the party's campaign narrative, not only because it has been used in the past but because water is essential for survival, livelihood, and humanity. The absence of water bodies in the region, such as the Birim River, is deeply concerning as it affects access to clean water, which is vital for the well-being of the population.

Annoh-Dompreh stressed that the elected Eastern Regional leadership will face a substantial task ahead, especially as the NPP aims to recover from its reduced vote share in the 2024 general elections.
