Valve fault delays water supply recovery for 15,000 Sibu consumers

On August 14, water supply restoration for 15,000 consumers in Sibu faced delays due to a malfunctioning delivery valve during repair works on a 1,000mm-diameter main pipeline. Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd revealed that the 600mm-diameter valve at the Salim Water Treatment Plant experienced an unexpected issue, further impeding the progress of water supply recovery.

The utility company stated that repairs on the valve are ongoing and should be completed between 1pm and 3pm on Friday. However, consumers are advised that full water supply may not return to normal immediately once the valve repair is finished. Approximately 15,000 residents in various areas, including Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Sibu Jaya, and nearby regions, will continue to experience temporary interruptions in water supply or low water pressure.

Sarawak Water explained that water supply will be restored progressively, with some areas receiving it earlier than others based on their location within the distribution system. The company has deployed water tankers to the affected areas to provide temporary assistance while repairs are underway. Some consumers might face temporary low water pressure or discoloured water as the distribution system stabilizes.

Those with discoloured water are instructed to run their taps until the water clears before use. Sarawak Water expressed regret for the inconvenience and thanked affected consumers for their patience as they work to restore water supply as quickly as possible.
