Ukrainian, Egyptian presidents discuss food security threats from Russian strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a crucial conversation regarding the threats to food security posed by Russian strikes, as reported by Ukrinform. Zelensky expressed his gratitude to el-Sisi for his attention to this pressing matter, stating that the discussion was much-needed.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that Ukraine is a major food supplier to Egypt and numerous African and Middle Eastern countries. However, these supplies are currently under severe threat due to Russia's ongoing war. Regrettably, two Egyptian citizens were killed in Russian strikes on cargo vessels. Zelensky conveyed condolences to el-Sisi and stressed that the reduction in food supplies could lead to serious consequences, including rising prices and shortages.

The two leaders discussed possible solutions to counter these threats and pledged to collaborate in finding answers. They also touched upon energy cooperation and bilateral relations between their nations. Zelensky separately thanked el-Sisi for his assessment that diplomacy must prevail in bringing the war to an end.
