Two women in dock for allegedly duping retiree in Perak out of RM120,000 over fake tax arrears

IPOH, on August 14, two women appeared in the Magistrate's Court, charged with duping a 60-year-old retiree named Koay Kuang Hew of approximately RM120,000. Noorfarah Surina Ahmad, aged 42, and Nurfalah Noordin, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The women allegedly deceived Koay by falsely claiming they could assist him in settling his tax arrears, which didn't exist.

They conducted the fraudulent transactions on four separate occasions between April and June this year. The act allegedly took place at Wisma Hasil, Jalan Tambun, within the Kinta district. They stand charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, coupled with Section 34 of the same Code, which could result in up to ten years' imprisonment, a fine, and whipping upon conviction.

The Magistrate, S. Punitha, set bail at RM4,500 with one surety for each accused, with the next court appearance scheduled for September 24. Both women were also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month until the case is resolved. Noorfarah Surina was represented by lawyer Izzat Fakhri Halimi, while Nurfalah was defended by Intan Shafini Mior Shahrin. Prosecution for the case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Zarris Sofea Zainudin.
