Two motorcyclists arrested for attempting to smuggle cigarettes, vapes at Woodlands Checkpoint

During the National Day long weekend of August 6-10, 13 motorists were caught at the Woodlands Checkpoint for violating traffic laws and engaging in dangerous driving behavior. According to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), 11 vehicles were instructed to make U-turns to rejoin traffic, while two foreign-registered drivers were banned from entering Singapore after crossing double white lines and cutting queues.

Additional infractions included illegally making right turns and parking in obstructive or inconvenient positions.

The ICA conducted intensified enforcement operations at the checkpoint as part of their efforts to detect traffic offenders and discourage others from committing similar offenses. The authority emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards traffic law violations and non-compliance with instructions given by checkpoint officers, which could endanger other motorists.

ICA officials stated that they would take firm action against those found guilty of traffic offenses and non-compliance at the checkpoints. As a precautionary measure, travelers were advised to cooperate with ICA officers, adhere to traffic laws, and maintain proper lane discipline when utilizing the land checkpoints.

In a statement released on August 3, the ICA had warned travelers to anticipate significant traffic congestion at the checkpoints from August 7 to 10. The immigration authority had ramped up security checks at all checkpoints since February 28, following the outbreak of the Iran war in the Middle East and heightened global security concerns.

During the recent Hari Raya Haji, Vesak Day, and June school holidays, when over 18 million travelers passed through the land checkpoints, 52 motorists were previously caught for traffic-related offenses and dangerous road behavior.
