Two civil service teams awarded for exemplary service

Chief Executive John Lee recently honored two civil service teams for their exceptional work during a ceremony. The Chief Executive's Award for Exemplary Performance recognizes outstanding contributions to the community and aims to inspire public servants to continually improve. This year, the award was given to a team that safely dismantled a wartime bomb in Quarry Bay last year and another team responsible for light public housing projects.

Lee commended both groups for their dedication and adherence to the highest professional standards. The current government, which has been in power for four years, has focused on reform and innovation, and Lee noted that policy initiatives have shown promising results. He expressed gratitude to all civil servants for their steadfast service.

In September, a 1,000-pound wartime bomb with high explosives was discovered in Quarry Bay, posing a significant threat due to Super Typhoon Ragasa approaching the region. The bomb was successfully defused by a team of senior bomb disposal officers, a feat made even more impressive by the proximity to residential and commercial buildings and the urgency of evacuating nearly 3,000 people before the typhoon arrived.

Additionally, a light public housing team has been working to address housing needs, following a government initiative in 2022 to build around 30,000 units over five years. The ceremony marked the fourth edition of the awards.
